What is CCTV?

CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is a visual surveillance technology designed for monitoring a variety of environments and activities. CCTV systems typically involve a fixed (or "dedicated") communications link between cameras and monitors.

In the past decade, the use of CCTV has grown to unprecedented levels. In Britain, millions of pounds are spent on a surveillance industry. Most British towns and cities are moving to CCTV surveillance of public areas, housing estates, car parks and public facilities.

Many Central Business Districts in Britain are now covered by surveillance camera systems involving a linked system of cameras with full pan, tilt, zoom and infrared capacity. Their use on private property is also becoming popular. Increasingly, police and local councils are placing camera systems into housing estates and red light districts.

Residents Associations are independently organizing their own surveillance initiatives. Tens of thousands of cameras operate in public places, in phone booths, vending machines, buses, trains, taxis, alongside motorways and inside Automatic Teller (Cash) Machines.

The limits of CCTV are constantly extended. Originally installed to deter burglary, assault and car theft, in practice most camera systems have been used to combat 'anti-social behavior', including many such minor offenses as littering, urinating in public, traffic violations, obstruction, drunkenness, and evading meters in town parking lots. They have also been widely used to intervene in other 'undesirable' behavior such as underage smoking and a variety of public order transgressions. Other innovative uses are constantly being discovered.

The modern CCTV system involves a linked system of cameras with full pan, tilt, and zoom; able to be operated remotely from a control room. These systems may involve sophisticated technology. Features can include night vision, computer assisted operation (with IP connection), and motion detection facilities which allows the operator to instruct the system to go on red alert or play sound, when anything moves in view of the cameras.

The clarity of the pictures is often excellent, with many systems being able to recognize a car plate or cigarette packet at a hundred metres. The systems can often work in pitch blackness, bringing images up to daylight level.

IP CCTV

CCTV over the Internet is fast becoming the benchmark for CCTV systems in that it provides the connectivity of the remote cameras with the convenience of connecting to a server or web based browser, allowing secure access from wherever your site is based - around the globe. One of the main benefits of using IP cameras is that they can be much more easily integrated into other systems and are not limited to a single location.

The system is protected with case sensitive password, to allow only the right users to access it from anywhere at any time, with lots of options, like playing back the recorded images from a particular time to a particular time 24/7, downloading and burning the recording on blank CD/DVDs for evidence of any type, without interfering in the process of the actual continuous recording.

A Digital video recorder can be connected to a computer network, which makes it possible for the images to be sent and received over the network whether it is a LAN or the internet.

Existing analogue cameras can also be converted to IP cameras using a video server connected to each camera or by using a digital video recorder to convert the analogue video signals to IP video data signals for transmitting over a computer network, providing an easy upgrade path to digital IP CCTV system without the need to replace the cameras.

Cameras

We have a wide range of cameras available from small covert cameras to static cameras, dome cameras to vandal proof cameras, with our harsh environment cameras able to withstand vandal damage and explosion proof cameras for use in highly volatile environments.

For those challenging applications that demands a camera with the ability to produce a good picture even under poor lighting conditions Cameras, we have a suitable array of high quality colour cameras for day and night operation to suit every applications. Compact, robust construction makes these cameras ideal for all types of surveillance both internal and external.

Monitors

We offer clear high resolution pictures and a huge range of shapes and sizes of monitors, from the traditional "boxed" monitors to flat screen display and high resolution plasma, LCD & TFT display walls up to 62" displays, for the clients who may need to do the surveillance on their own, in their premises.

Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

Our range of DVRs offer intuitive interfaces allowing easy local user operation and IP connectivity to provide remote monitoring and system configuration capabilities, from simple single channel unit recording a single camera to fully integrated system based DVRs with gigabytes of storage facilities.

The DVRs internal hard disks provide high quality, continuous digital recording, with an option to record real-time images. High quality image recordings are accessible locally to the user from a single button selection or via a powerful network based web based browser facility for remote users and operators.

Variable alarm configuration allows remote notification of alarms via a variety of communication channels. There is support for pre-event alarm recording to ensure sufficient images are captured before the incident occurs and high quality bi-directional network audio provides on-site communication.

The Motion Detection System can be configured to play sound and generate an alarm to alert the monitoring centre operators that an alarm event has occurred.

Talking CCTV & Speakers

Cameras can be wired up with speakers to allow CCTV operators to intervene when they spot someone behaving suspiciously or trying to gain access to the site, by voicing one of several standard phrases - or saying something a little more personal, to warn them that there is a problem with something they are about to do - and that "there's a camera there, and the CCTV operators are watching you".
